R.M. Zink 1979 Journal Coast S of Monterey, Monterey to Calix to Berkeley. 28 Jan (cont) drove to Berkely via 101. Saw several (~15) R.t. Hawks + osm kestres + meadowlarks. At Emeryville mudflat: Whimbrel, 20 Avocet, 100 Dowithers, 100 Dunlin, 3 B1-b. Plouer, 3k'llden, 1Mallett E-orkwit, 5 R.N. Grebe, 4 West. Grebe, + ducks (not counted: Am. Goldenege, Reddy, Scarp, Cownback, Surf Scoter, ), Saw no Loons + few Scoters. Returned MVZ at 1700. MVZ Mendocino Nat. Forest to under campground at 7.14N, R.9W, SW (sec.3) Lake Co, Calif 1020m 31 March Left MVZ 1330 + headed N on Hwy 101, + cut E on Hwy 175 to Lakeport (on Clear Lake), where I called James Branston (warden) + informed his wife Id be collecting in area. The road from Hopland to Lakeport (Hwy 175) crosses thru several sizable areas of chaparral (private land). Stayed + squatted 1kat + 15+ Red-Tails 3x but only got 2 Scrub Jays, Saw 20-30 Turkey Vultures from Berkely to Lakeport. From Lakeport drove P to Upperlake, then N on rd 1 No.2, The rd ascends thru open pasture, chaparral + mixed stands of forest; Stayed in several likely looking chaparral stands but only saw 1 Ruby-crowned Kinglet, 2 Bluebirds (? Westi), 5 Robins, 3 Scrub Jays, many Worms. Got to an unimproved campground + hunted a sizable patch of chaparral. Saw: 4 Gold-cust Sparrow, 3+ Western 1 Fox Sparrow, 18-15 Band-tailed Pigeons, heard ZorB
