R.M.Zink 1979 Journal Los Padres Nat. Forest, Monterey Co., Calif. 275 am. Bob Timm & I left Berkeley @ 830. Intended to coll. wintering Fox Sparrows. Went to Arroyo Seco Camp (w of Soledad) via rds 617&10, intended to drive rd (Seco) through forest but rd. was closed. At Area Arroyo Seco: 5 scrub Jay, 30+ white throated Swift, 1 [illegible], coronata ssp?, 1 Accipiter striatus (prob.), 4 Kestrel, Bk. Phoebe, 2B K-hawk, 5 yell-b. flycatcher, common yellowthroat & Bridgeton or late cat Arroyo Seco: 20 Court, 106 old age, 2P & greys Arre Humma, 2 Green herons. Then drove to Hastings & asked John Davis where we could find S:t liana. He said he'd only trapped 1 at date, down from usual 5's. On his advice we went to Jansburg & attempted to drive to Chews Ridge however my lovers forced our return to Hastings. Then went to great Dr. pts 2 1/2 n:; t Chars Ridge on private land of employee of Hastings. Area consists of hills, w grassy oak woodland & more densely vegetated dry firn woods. Was cold yet again. Bob & I huddled for 1 1/4 hrs. Vergneuet - saw/heard: 15 June, 10 66+ age, snow, 1 Bristled Hawk, 1 Kestrel, 3-4 Plain titmouse, 15 Bushtit, 1 Townsend Warbler (near stream or flooded bank), 3+ crow, 10 Yell-b magpie, 1 & 6 old finch, 1 Thrush?, 10 Calif. Quail, 1 Jackrabbit, prob. Western house along creek. Spent night at Hastings. 285 am Snow on ground at 0600+ snowing. Departed for coast at 0700. Along rd.: 2(3?4) wst Bluebird,
