"Owl"
1 mi. W Bolinas P.O., 120 ft, Marin Co. California.
Scandus & Thamnus were more common in 1958 than my trapping results indicate - at least from signs of their workings.
I had only 1 Mole year & 2 Myodes. I only set these in a few runs around the house. I was surprised how few Peromyscus are obviously in the area. Also how few Batthos, but the pellet contents corroborate my year results. There is plenty of obviously suitable habitat for both species here.
As for Neureichus, I probably got more than the Owls did since I was trapping in dug-out runs in rather thick brush where the birds would have difficulty hunting.
All of the Scandus Pellet caught mandibles seems to be of young individuals judging by amount of tooth wear. Pellet Material discarded after study was completed.
