ACZIEBEE 1960 Journal 12 mi. (by road) ESE Newberry (lavafow), San Bernardino, Calif. 30 Apr. 41 mi./hr. Between the morning snow at "Dagger Dunes" and the night came there we drove East on Hwy 466 +66 to the Northern part of Arizona flow and looked for herds from 1400 - 1630. Animals were not seen til about 1530 when they began to become quite active. We left at time they seemed to be most active unfortunately, Party saw or got: Heterosoma platyrhinos - 2 (might-counted, very early) Cervus leucurus - 2 Yg. in insect trap Canis majorus - 5 (1 " " " ) Vulpes vulpes - 8 (1 " " " ) Lupus wolfi - (1 " " " ) Pteropus - 1 (6" inches shell length) Ursus griseus - 1 Canis lupus - 2 (1 only seen, 1 caught) Saururus - 3 Diposaurus - 2 or 3 Carnivorous - 12+ (seemed to be active before other carnivores) Next day's spending night at Dunes we packed & left about 0800 + drove thru Mohave & towards Tehachapi pass! 7.4 mi. (by road) NW Mohave, Kern Co., Calif. 1May Stopped at a Joshua tree stand with S-facing rocky hillside & worked from 1000 - 1135
