Pre'd (on Feb 24, 1960) 6 MVS caught in swab-yards line. Lost sight of these were the freshest looking specimens of 9 or 10 caught on that date - picked out by Dr. Loickner & not selected for color. He did some more & I just skinned & stuffed them. These skins are to be used to compare color of the island fox at diff. times. 2 more series are already in Museum. MVS at Brooks are now very, very low in numbers & maybe gone from most parts of island.
Microtus are common now.
Feb 28 Hayward (via Mission Foothill Blvd), Alameda Co., Calif.
I drove to "Hayward Ponds" - a pool & picnic grounds - & worked a hillside just north of pool. Got 10 COYOTA 6 young, 4 adults but turned 3 of the young loose again. Animals were under palm fronds, rocks etc. in grassy fields & cemetery at top of hill. BATRACHOCAS occurred commonly +saved 3.
Also - saw about 100 of them. No other HERPS seen. Forgot THEMONKES so no TEMPS. Most of DEBA had been
