Baleenwhale Baleen
OFF FREMON ISLANDS SAN FRANCISCO CO. CALIFORNIA
Aug. 17 E.E. Rosenblum who works at Golden Gate Fishing Co. in Richmond salvaged a 3'x4',
O(?) embryo from a 50 ft. Q boat into
station. Locality given him was only "off
Fremon Islands" but apparently person
spot of capture of mother may have
been within 2-50 mi. radius of islands.
Boats may keep a secret location, though,
locality but these data are not available
to us now. Embryo was frozen Aug 17
and put in 10% formalin (a
week injected) on Aug 31, 1959. No meas.
were taken. AEZ# 1653.
Aug.28 Rosenblum got in a chunk of about
20 baleen plates from a 46 ft. O?
from location at lip & curve of plates
they must have come from left side of
upper jaw. Cut off a block of 10 for
MVB & cleaned up a few single
plates for myself. Rosie said the set
whales are identified at the station
by their long, fine, matted barbs on
the inside of baleen plates.
Rosie noted these plates were close to the
longest found in this specimen.
