L.E. Ziccone 1959 Berardius BAYDOI OFF Farallon Islands, San Francisco Bay, Calif. Sept. 17 Whale was 32 ft. off Talien just within sight of one of the Farallon Is. & to the south of it. Edwin E Rosenblum, a grad student in zoo at U.C. who also works at whaling sta. went out on the boat for the first time the trio whale was yarden. He gave following data: "Talien seen a group of 4. No larger (sperm or sperm) whales seen so this one yarden rather than boat screening empty. Apparently there is something about this whales oil that makes it undesirable to add to that of other whales. Penis extended as animal was blown up with air to keep it aloft. Taken about 6:00 AM Sept. 17. Looks brownish when taken. Had a 2 ft. dia. whitish spot around navel. Tongue pinkish. No sounds noticed from whale." So took 2 rolls of motion picture film of capture but has not seen prints yet. The cut-up blubber of animal was seen in the processing co. and show it appears slatty-black with whitish scratches on it. Skin on skull had the same color. It was not noticed whether
