Sightings
Whitney Passes Canyon, 8300ft., Inyo Co., Calif.
June 29 I walked in a dozen snow years before
creed in campground. Stream was 3-4
ft. w.d.; cold & swift & reaches 3-4 yards
depth. Dr. Quay said stream rose up to
4 inches at wide from melt-water or
snow up higher.-T stream did flood
a couple of years. P. maniculatus in
3 other years.

Aug. 10 Saw one run past me on rocks in
1-2 inch water along separate stream.
Seemed a fairly large animal. Went
under a rock beside me at come out
of water. I hit the rock but was not
quick enough to grab animal. It swam
than water for a foot & leaped over
rocks & escaped across overhanging
water.
Aug. 13 Saw one swim on top of water across a
tiny pool & disappear up the inlet creek.
It's am about 8:00. Still have taken
none in passes or vicinity.

Aug. 19 Made saw one swim rapidly across part
of creek today but I took none in roads along
slow side branches & schools of stream.
