Poker Flat, 5000'ft, 12 mi. NW Happy Camp, Siskiyou Co., Calif.
Aug. 13
Light frost on flat this am. Got only
a Perom. Maniculatus + an Imm. Argen (maybe
not Maniculatus) in live. A few deer along
Cams loop w/o. Shot 3 Eutamias bred of
came about noon today. Saw bled birds
+ drew 6 nuthatches, chickadees, juncos
+ 2 vireos (?) (white eye-ring, olive back + yellow
breast). Caught 2 Thomomys in am. Collected
water beetles in pond in flat - many back-
swimmers + several Odonata larvae seen.
Many grasshoppers in flat - caught a
dozen + killed them - will pin to press
to try to get shadows to wires. Will move
ear years to new locations to try for
flying sq's again tonight. Added a piece of
the origo fruit on
Eutamias to each of the 5 ear years + the
two schuylers. Got 2 good shots at birds at
dusk but missed both. Saw only 3 ducks.
Aug. 14
3 adult + 2 yo. A. Maniculatus in yard line -
only one on the grasshopper bait.
Collected a large abilio-like fry attacking
a long-horned beetle this am. Heard what
might have been a chickadee at 11:am.
but never saw it. Moved live of years along
stream up into woods in pm. Traps in flat
moved to new locations nearby sink in
shrubs in wetter parts of flat.
