Power Flat, 5000+ ft., 12 mi. NW Haxor Camp, Siskiyou Co., Calif.
Aug. 10. Ran transect for 5000 acres of Pseudotsuga - (25 rows solid into two lines). Got only 2 A. macrocarpus. Saw bats around camp in P.M. Many deer in camp at night - Kaye also saw what was probably a coon. An other time we ran across road and no used to read Pine Marten here in winter. No stock is being grazed in here at present.
Night cool 4 days warm but a chilly breeze is ushering up. Took 7 Trelch from pools in flat - water not running much. Trelich fairly common in pools. Took only A. Caninus in live during day, shot 2 Cotticus at dusk. Have seen smaller bats but haven't gotten one yet.
Only 2 deer seen in camp this P.M. Found what was probably bear scat beside camp - not over a week or so old - had many fir needles in it. Kaye heard what she thought might have been a coyote calling across flat about midnight. I heard a very loud series of spaced 'coughs' high on the ridge back of camp at dusk, Solitaire seen feeding on berries of both near camp.
A few Robins are about + also flock of Juncos
