A.C. Ziegler 1957 Journal POKER FLAT, 3000 ft., 12ml. NW Happy Camp, Shasta Co., Calif. Aug. 29 (cont.) At 11:30 AM found ? Aesculius in spearm where it crosses Kenny Lake road near our camp. Dr. B. got ? also. No trapped snakes. Set out 50 mus specs in wet spots in meadow + into ferns on hillsides as we shoot flags. Saw 12 Avs dug-out under logs in damp ground Also 3 rat traps with them. Set out 8 Schuyles (+ 2 snares out) on logs + at bases of tall stumps around camp with mouse heads, birds + lures as bait. Ran 50 traps that have been set for last couple of days in windows in flags. Got a ? Eoryx precious and a cougar microtus. Got 1 canidae which must have been in trap for several hours or more. Shot at birds at twilight but if I hit any I could not find them. Dr. B. got 1 small one but could not find it. Saw 2 Canada Jays in Camp about 2:00 PM. Heard an Owl (Hoo-Hoo-Hoo-ah) at twilight. Ran 50 mus specs in windows in meadow and the 10 Schuyles at midnight-had nothing in any. Aug. 30 Ran traps at 7:30 AM. Got 9 Peromyscus, 6 Microtus, 1 Sorex newberryi + tip of a chipmunk tail in 50 mus spec. + 3 rat traps set in NE corner of flats along wet spots + in ferns + logs. Got no gophers, nothing in Schuyles or in 4 #1 traps set in burrows by pool
