A.C.Zechnitz 1957 Journal: POKEL FLATS 5000 ft, 12 mi. NW Happy Camp, Siskiyou Co., Calif. Aug. 27 Clevonomys occidens in live traps on hill side also 2 or 3 Peromyscus & 1 Sorex Pacificus living in reeds along stream. In Mus spp's & Rat traps along stream got more Peromyscus, Microtus hizarus. In Mus spp's in meadow around willows & in sege got 1 Sorex Pacificus, several more Peromyscus & Microtus. Several rats in meadow spring also. A little frost in stream bed & meadow this am. Total caught: 1 Sorex Pacificus, 1 Sorex Danuvelis, 1 Thommys monticola, 22 Peromyscus spp?, 6 Microtus, 1 Clevonomys occidens, 1 Zapus. Ran traps at 2:00 pm. All empty except those in sege & willows in meadow where I caught 2 more Sorex Pacificus. Ran traps at 6:00 pm. All empty except for 1 live rat with a Clevonomys. Set out 3 numbers. 1 rats in burrows 5 inches in dia. with almost a bushel of dry dirt & rocks throw outside of them. Dr. B. thinks may be Aplodonia. There set at 7:30 pm, looked for bats over meadow but saw none. Ran the 50 Mus spp's in meadow & got 1 Sorex Pacificus, 2 Microtus & 2 or 3 Peromyscus also looked at Aplodonia sets but they had not been touched.
