Mus musculus
Brooks Island, 105 ft. Converse Cosma Co., Calif.
Jan 5.
J from HOGS (Rez# 982-986) very dark - A couple almost black - above + almost as dark below. Fresh pelage with longer guard hairs. + fairly thick. Taken, every time (1 more was taken in year + not that dark) by Paul & Anderson & T.C. Chisum at MVB.
San Rafael (5 Warren Court?) Marin Co., Calif.

Jan 8
3 mice, perhaps from city itself, sent in - 2 were black too + Boston + seemed (in Arendal anyhow) to be young. Is it like the mice - in other words these did not seem to be the grading of darker to lighter from Lassen to Ventura side as could be seen in the Brooks Is. spec's at Jan 5, 1958. Perhaps someone else were trunks loose or maybe just a (change) melanistic mutation took place at same to the San Rafael population. Others I may seem to be a normally colored Mus - brownish grey above, lighter below. Cores are all hard to tell in Arendal + due to slippery fur could not be safely sent with our Hogs. Saved for M/Z as Arendales.
(A.C.# 987-989.). Correspondence (Aryan to Benson) says same Mr. Warren had "caught a black field mouse (micetus) in late summer" also.
