A.C.Ziegler 1958 Microrus californicus Strawberry Canyon, Berkeley, Alameda Co., Calif. Scan 27 Took 7 this AM as follows: o> 29.7 gm. Tresses 2x3mm, GPO.- o> 44.0 " " 3 x 4 mm, " o> 47.6 " " " o> 57.1 " " " f> 29.6 " No eggs or scars, vagina closed. f> 35.8 " " " f> 40.4 " " , vagina open The seminal vesicles of o's were thread-like, barely noticeable. Also took 3 Redwing along with these Microrus. Microrus from marsh at Martinez, Calif. collected in last few days by Chas. Threes of us have been breeding (young, eggs, scars, etc.) but these in canyon seem not to be yet. Have had only 1 night rain so far this late summer from. Runs of animals in Strawberry seem to be in the thin dead grass rather than in the very thick green matting grass. I took 6 of the 7 above in "thin, dead-grass" areas and only 1 on bare or thick green grass. Brown grass made up many piles of cuttings seen but it could not be determining if it was dead or green when observing it. Trapping area about 100 yards up road from Botanical gardens.
