A.C. Ziegler 1957 JOURNAL GUANALA, MENDOCINO, CALIFORNIA Aug. 19 LEFT BEVERLY ABOUT 2:03 PM & ARRIVED GUANALA TOWARDS TWILIGHT. GOT STUCK IN MUSHROOM JUST BESIDE GUANALA RIVER ON SONOMA CO. SLOP & SPENT NIGHT WITHOUT GETTING YETAS. Aug 20 Got out of mushroom & left about 11 AM. Saw pair of [illegible] warblers parting around thru brush at mushrooms. Drove easily to Eureka, Humboldt Co., where we had a flat & camped on Eel River near Pope's wood on Highway 101. (Aug 21) Set out 34 Sherman live traps but got only 2 Preamysce's in brush & driftwood 100 YAS from river - released them. Bark Showry Camp, T. 12N, R 5E Sec. 13, Siskiyou Co., Calif. Aug 21 Got here about 6 PM & set up camp. Set out 50 mus. spce's in small moist cullly beside small stream and on dry hillside of conifers. Also 3 rat nears on dry hillside. 34 Sherman live traps on another dry hillside along with 3 more rat nears. 1 more rat near in camp. By 10:30 AM on Aug 21 had caught 4 Preamysce's & 1 Clethrionomys in the wet ground along stream. Live traps not checked this night. Dr. Benson shot a Screencrow in camp about 9:00 PM.
