A.C. Zieber 1958 JOURNAL Jan 30 (cont.) 7 mi. E (by road) Merced Hot Springs, Fresno Co., Cal. Drove thru Bakersfield to Firebaugh Thence SW thru Merced Hot Springs & LLANAS A to first Panochie Pass. At SPelled "Mercey" on map but "Mercery" on sign bt town. Locality above saw 4 or 5 Kit Fox Carca Carcass & a Bobcat Bodies tico on Fence. Animals passed apparently & Then clubbed from convition at feet & Heads. Skulls of bobcat & Beddle of Texas coon but took whole carcass of A kit fox that still seemed in good shape. From Walker Pass to about locality Saw little mammal sign - only CITRULUS IN FIELD & ROCKS along way, Those in vicinity of Mts around pass Were almost a chestnut-red color While those in valley more greyish- Brown. Digger Pine cones were in evidence in high rocky country above Kern River & Isabella Resiv. Seemed to Have plenty of water in it. Grass seem Green in many places in valley & surrounding country although we saw some spots in valley where there was little evidence of recent sage & field Sprinklers were being operated. On the Route U.S. 99-U.S. 466 and State 33 highways from Bakersfield to Firebaugh chief Crows
