A.C. ZIEGLER 1958 JOURNAL Broads Island, 0°-750° Ft. Contra Costa Co., Cal., R. Jan 18 (cont.) Went to Red Rock just W of mouth of New at 3 PM. Richmond - San Rafael Bridge, 2023 canoe-in shores of Cinnabar Mines Head In from near water line. SW shore is fairly rocky but N shore rather moist with a few ferns even. Grass up to a foot high, also some Poison Oak. Paul said he searched for mammals but got none & we saw no sign. 7 species of salamanders - Batrachoseps + Ambystoma mormons occur here in contrast to only Barrene's on Brooks. Got back to boat dock at 5:00 PM. Birds in bay: Common Gull, Surf Scoter, Scamp, White-winged, Golden Eye, Coot, W. Grebe(1), Cassin's Grouse(2), Ptarmigan (30+), Shorebirds, Ducks, Cormorants (3). On Bay Island - Brown Townee, W. G(?) Sparrow, Spree Hawk. Found Own or Hawk Pellet on drift-wood near shore on Broad's 40mm x 15mm consisting of an insect + remains (skin part, etc) of 2 mus fur could work to mus also - Jack Green.
