A.C. ZIEBELL 1957 OCTHRAIONOMYS OCCIDENTALIS Drake Shanry Camp, 3700 ft., T. 12N, R. 5E, Sec. 13, Siskiyou Co. Cal. Aug. 21 I in mus trap set in wet spot along stream between 8-10:30 pm. Mouse caught by leg + very mean. Trap set in hollow scramble under a fallen log but about 4 ft. from stream. Took Aegomyscus manicula near this spot and [illegible] this evening. Aug. 22 I in live trap on dry fir-covered hillside with some underbrush in places. Dr Benson took 1 also near stream in green underbrush. Aug. 23 I on dry hillsides in live trap under scrub oaks 3 ft. down beside path, 20 ft to nearest log. The 2 taken these last 2 days were almost dead when taken from live traps so maybe they cannot survive as long under cramack conditions with little food as Aegomyscus can. Police Flat, 5000 ft., T. 12N, NW Happy Camp, Siskiyou Co., Cal. Aug. 27 I in live traps set on steep hillsides under some brush with fires above, also 1 in stream bed 20 ft. from base of forested slope. Aug. 29 I in live trap on steep hillside near place where Aug. 27 live trap specimen was caught, and under a 3 ft high sprawling bush. Trap baited with cracker crumbs.
