D.A. Benson trapped quite a few shrew-moles in this marsh or perhaps a hundred yards or less up valley where a lake exists now. Wherever he trapped them it must not have been as wet as the area below the dam is at the present time - since he told of digging in the centers of bases of bunch grass clumps - now there seems only two at centers of clumps.
Tunnels were noticed in drier short grass areas toward ocean from marsh where bunch grass clumps were absent or very small. These probably belonged to Microtus from cuttings seen in them. Body in edwards fmld sent to Dr. C.H. Corwin, Dept. Zool., Univ. Mo, Columbia Mo.
