A.C. ZIEGLER 1957 SOREL VARIANS But Creek, 8 mi. S Chester, Plumas Co., Calif. 4300 ft. Sept. 3-5 Dr. Benson took 3 on 3el during night in Miceous runs in 2600's in damp roddy meadow. I got none the 3el but did get 1 in ody meadow scope at between 8:00pm and 11:30 PM; on the 4th. Also not a m round 3 in teeth in windows & scope. Same year had not take any VARIANS the night before and day before. Some or all of these were young. Weno Elk Valley, 10+ to 75+ ft., Marin Co., Calif. Oct. 28-29 23 taken these two days on wet ground in + among bunch- & sowgrass clumps. Mostly males. Many were taken during day as I ran teeth several times. About 15 were taken at 75+ ft. (where I got none the weekend before) in the 75+ ft. teeth got reftures, Peromyscus maniculatus + some miceous at night; a few Peromyscus + miceous in daytime. Sorey both times. 3 of the 23 were put up as study skins after being weighed & injected with Bouin's FLUO. Others were weighed, injecing measured, sexed & saved as "SKULLS ONLY" for possible use in MUG or ABG class series. These all deemed big for VARIANS but Dr. Benson pointed out lighter underside + tail w/ about 40 or less mm. S. Trowbridge is darker brown & has 45+ mm. tail.
