A.C. ZIEGEE 1957 Journal Dec 28 (cont) W end Elk Valley, 10+ to 75+ ft, Main Lo, Cow R. One rat trap + scattered ferrets about. Microtus are not so scarce as last night's results seemed to show. Got 15 of 20 in traps. Also 1 or 2 P. maniculatus and 9 more Sorex [illegible]. Rat 30 yards in meadow at 50+ ft, and 25 more at 75+ ft. Twice. 50 yards set in thick bunch grass higher on slopes in Jonnet gave disappointing results - only a Microtus or two + a Peromyscus. Picado va is unproductive. Traps from various locations + set them up steep slope just to N of locked gate where I am camping, but in sawgrass bunchgrasses + deer feet clumps. Some Microtus used in evidence in this spot + an under- ground run or two found, still drizzling at 5:00 PM. From 9:30 to 10:00 PM ran 15 yards N of locked gate - saw about 10 of them + got only a couple of Microtus + a couple of P. maniculatus, also ran traps at 75+ ft. IN 20 of them had 4 or 5 Peromyscus, 3 or 4 P. maniculatus, 1 Mus, one 1 Sorex vagrans [illegible]. All of rest except 1 were spring. Still drizzling. Own has been moon ING since [illegible], HOO HOOO. MINUTES BETWEEN SETS OF HOOKS.
