June 16 (cont)
Along the aqueduct end between
aqueduct & pond, some runs w/ dry
grass cuttings were seen & nears
passed mostly in there. This was
about 4:30 pm by spr I had 3 youngish
sigmodon. I ran years again at
trail (about 9 or 9:30 pm) x had 6 more
sigmodon, out of these was a nice
bount f, very young, just covered
everything with a brown layer. This
am at about 5:30 am had 3 more
young sigmodon, 3 Psamyscus & 1 mus.
Many other years sprang & bent
gone - maybe about sigmodons, the
quy caught several bount sigmodon
& Psamyscus in live years in similar
territory. We were trapping for
Psamyscus which acc. to Manis of
Kansas had been taken nice at
the brooce ponds but we got none.
Also looked over marshy spots at 5
end of Little Harasse & at places
near the buffalo pens behind one of
the picnic grounds but saw no
runways of any kind. Put up some at
the sigmodons & ann Psamyscus; discarded
mus with brown skull. Found 2 box
turtles - 1 digging in dirt backing
beside pond aqueduct at 4:00 pm - took
it out of hole & replaced it. It was
still there working around in hole at
9:00 pm & still there at 5:30 am June 17.
No eggs found in holes. Also caught
