9:15 AM ON - Saw 3 or 4 (or 2 at
a time) flying up or down channel
at NW corner of Is. Black cap,
Red bill [illegible] Grey monthke, black under
primaries!

about 50' out from edge of
Salicornia marsh (about 200 ft.
from high dry road) Birds circled
in area about 20ft in dia.
flying about 30 ft above water

given every second or two when birds were
when seeking food wings flapping
stiffly and bill held almost
straight down, at 9:25 one seen
flying just above water dipping
its bill to touch water for
a few inches every 15 ft or so,
without stopping in flight. Dipped
bill 6 or 7 times [illegible] in the single
"run" then swooped up & resumed
circling. "Garran" note given by
2 at least 1 of 2 birds as one
dived towards & flew along side
the other - then they separated
with 1 still giving note 2 or
3 times as it flew off to "hunt"
again. 1 American egret standing
quietly in sunic about 50' away from
where terns were feeding, when
food(?) was sighted bird merely slowed
wing beat & pointing body down slightly
