Touwen.
Nov25 Boise Creek Campground, 800' ft. Humboldt Co., California.
Camped here last nite. Set
90 mus. Spee's - About 70 along 2 to 3
inch deep creek (dry in spots) running stream
down shady hill-side. Mossy rock,
few old logs & 3 inch deep leaf
litter made up ground cover.
Only a few runs found by digging
into ground - many rocks & pebbles
in soil may have kept down tunnels
digging. More run seen in camp
ground. Road construction going on
during week on road past this camp.
Also many lumber trucks on and
these roads. Remaning 20 mays:
Set in more or less open spots (foot
of trees, under bushes etc.) leading
up hillside above a rocky river
bed (partly sun-lit). Got only 7
Peromyscus maniculatus. Kids found
salamanders in the 2-3 inch
deep creek.
right in campground (E side).
This locality is probably
the same as that in which Dr.
Stebbins collected Ryacophiton.
Had a buff-colored house cat around
camp last nite late & this am..
Quickly ate all of 4 mice given
to it. Tree cover at trapping
spots was 80% Qaw.f. Bay, rest
maple(?) & douglah(?) fir. Birds here:
Chickadee - 2
Ruby C's Kinglet - 2
Left about noon for Bernouly
via Blue lake, Eureka etc.
Location is Sect.30 U.S.G.S. Winkow Creek Quad. 1952.
