Nov 24 Grizzly Creek State Park Campground, T.I.N., R.Z.E., Humboldt Co., Calif.
Camped here last night with J. Lawrence,
Teddy Papenfuse, & Gary DeBerk. Set out 50
Mvs. Spee's in Redwood underbrush
mostly in runs dug up in leaf litter &
ground, set 10-15 ft. apart at
about midnight, got only 3 Peromyscus
maniculatus. Only 2 others spring.
Also set out about 20 Mvs. Spee's.
at E end of camp ground, under
bushes & at base of trees - nothing in
these. Set 50 just across HWY
from campground, J. Lawrence set at
40 or 50 Mvs. Spee's & got 2 P. manicul.
(maybe one of these was young burbot?)
fairly moist; litter 2 inches deep
& [illegible] tunnels (1 1/2" dia.) found over
most of area. Birds at camp ground
Great Blue (?) Heron - 1
ducks - 2
Kingfisher - 1
Brown Creeper - 1,
Chickadees (ches. Bk'd) - 3+
Ruby Cr's Kinglet - 2
Varied Thrush - 2 or 3
Boy's companion saw armadillos
- Ranger saw Ted's crowbar &
asked to see what he had in sack
- Ted showed him & he said nothing.
Dont charge us for camping either
Junction of Grizzly Creek & Van Duzen
River 50 yards away (W?) of trap
location. Found 2 Batrachoseas in
leaf litter while setting traps.
Left at about noon for bike livestrck.
