(Eugene 1956 Journal May 1 \frac{1}{2}mi. W Grizzly Peak, Oakland Alameda Co., Calif. Vic Lewin brought in 2 spotted towheo for Canif. Joy he caught in traps set for Canif. Quail in bushes on hills beside Strawberry Canyon. He cought 2 quail also. I put up the 2 towncoos & joy. May 5 Wildcat Canyon, Contra Costa Co., Calif Bird trip from 8:15 am - 12:00 noon. Walked down main road SE from tennis courts then up paths to road above (on SW rim of) Wildcat canyon down road & then down slope again to hit main road near entrance to Tilcohen Park. Live oak woods & brush slopes walked mostly with 1 Karob Mawson. Baseball field watched also, cloudy at times with 2 15 minute spells of light rain. Wind slight warm, went with Eugene Volz' group. 1 Microtus seen, and 2 fresh graphite washings, no apriels 2 large batremoseos collected from under smooch log & given to Gene Volz. About 5" long & fairly thick. Trees are pretty well in full leaf & grass tall on road sides. Deer tracks seen on muddy slope. Had been raining yesterday & day before also so everywhere pretty wet. Birds seen or heard: Canif Quail - 4+ heard calling only Mourning Dove - 3 Anna Hum'bird - 1 or
