TUCOLOR 1956 JOURNAL APR 29 (cont.) Point Isabel, Contra Costa Co., Calif. GRASS FOUND IN MOST GROW IN PATCHES AROUND THE HILLOCK. NOW EARLY SEEING OR FRUITING NEARLY JUST UNDER 2 FT. WIDE BUSH, RUNS HAD QUITE A QUANTITY OF FRESH & OLD DROPPINGS. RUNS COULD BE SEEN LEADING OVER 2 INCH HIGH GRASS COVERED AREA TO SANIC., 3 FT. AWAY; SEVERAL CUT SPARKS OF GRASS SEEN IN RUNWAYS, GROUND IN RUNS SEEMED TO DIP A LITTLE BELOW OTHER LEVEL OF GROUND + GRASS WAS EITHER MISSING IN RUNS OR CUT ALMOST DOWN TO ALMOST GROUND LEVEL. ~Holes on bike not NW road that showed fresh cuttings of grass ~WRO AP 22 DID NOT SHOW ANY FRESH CUTTING THIS WEEK. OUT OF 15 or so holes only ( had signs of fresh cutting - is 2 inch long tip of some broad-leaved flower. This lack of fresh cuttings may mean the end of nest building. The burrows dug out in other areas today did show fresh cuttings both of grass & a few 2-inch segments of newly-grown SANICENIA branch tips. ~~only the very thick new sanic branches were found in runs.
