JOVENAN
April 22 (cont.)
Point Isabel, Contra Costa Co., Calif.
From edge of bay inlet, lying
breast down & a 2 inch long x
1 inch wide strip of skin & a little
meat had been chewed off of lower
breast & stomach. Collected.
Found an owl(?) pellet 2 1/2 inches
long x 3/4 inch wide with yellowish
hair & vertebrae & a femur -
might have been a large Microtus
or Sciurus Patricus. Pellet was
on a piece of drift wood with
no mice nearby, saw 3 more
shore(?) bird skeletons scattered
over the drier sand Semicolnia
but no Microtus run ways or
droppings. Weather - clear but with
wisp's of fog coming in about noon.
Cool & quite windy, Sweetshooters
holding a match at range, time in
field 9:15 am - 12:15 pm. Birds:
Western Sandpiper - 75+
Dowitchers - 30+ (standing in short sward
& along shore at high tide)
Brewer's Blackbirds - 2
- See sketch for rough loc of
