JOURNAL 5. EIGHTH 1956 APR8 (CONT.) Point Isobel, Cowner Costa Ca, Clamf, [illegible] appearing only at the feet of the grass. Also vertical holes ran up thru grass from tunnels to top of mat. Microtus (?) [illegible] were present in the runs. The grass seemed to have been more eaten thru than forced thru in the making of the runways. Fresh grass sprouts were eaten off close to around on the run floors. I worked the sonic flats just a foot or so above high tide line where sonic was about the only plant & where it grew about 2-3 inches tall & not very matted, no runways were noticed here. And only where the ground rose to dikes or hillclods did the sonic get torn (up to 1 foot) and runways & a few holes seen. Saw an [illegible] gull & 2 with just part black head near Arboy Dump Road. APR9 1/2 mi. W. Grizzly Peak, Oakland, Alameda Co. Ca. 4:45 PM. Ran & quail trees with Vic Lowry. Only 2 birds in trees A golden crio sparrow with no yellow crown F's - only pin feathers in snares on crown. [illegible] the other a junco which I put up. heart fat deposits throught body.
