Wolfson 1938 June 21, (cont.) En route to Cascades near Bend Road. National Forest about 18 mi. Did not find suitable country with a meadow. Turned back to Bend and took road out toward Tumalo Lake. Entered Deschutes National Forest again and made camp at: Tumalo Creek, 11 mi. W. Bend, 4700 ft., Deschutes Co., Ore. Tumalo Creek, 11 mi. W Bend, 4900 ft., Des-chutes County, Ore. June 22. Left camp at 6:30 and went E. Passed through heavy forest of yellow pine, lodgepole pine and some white fir. Dense underbrush of Ceonothus and Riles and young conifers. Grass and other herbaceous plants e.g. Lupinus. Some cutting has been done of old trees and dead brush is abundant on ground. Saw in forest several Oregon Timbers. Left forest after few hundred yards and came into open chaparel of Ceonothus; where large yellow pines had been cut out and dead brush was common.
