(l cont.)
trick began on the W side and circled track to that side. This was done to get Microdipodops if possible in this open sandy region.
June 20.
Collected specimens from trap line and road: 24 Peromyscus maniculatus
9 of which were immature; 2 Dipodomys ordii, both immature. Difficult to understand why haven't caught Microdipodops or Perognathus.
The dark upper side of the tails in Dipodomys was used as the character for immaturity. The adults are lighter. At 8:30 left camp and headed S for the lava cliffs near the Crooked River. At the cliffs, which are about 2 1/2 mi. by air line SW & slightly C of camp, were seen: Red-tailed Hawks, 3; Cliff Swallows 70; Violet-green Swallow 1; Turkey Vulture 2; Nighthawks 2.
The Cliff Swallows were in a nesting colony at the top of the cliffs and the Violet-green Swallow was amongst them. The rest of the Red-tailed Hawks.
