The soil here seemed drier and
saudier than in the surrounding
land. It was surrounded on the E,
S, W, sides by shrubby growth
as described above and lacked
Junipers. On the N side was the
Highway to Redmond, No. 28. On the
W and S sides there was a ridge
where the shrubby growth begins.
This ridge slopes to SW and contains
rocks abundantly, and several
rock piles. In the rock piles were
found two Scolopax which
don't look like occidentalis. The
tracks are streaked and there is a
purplish band, or irridescence,
exterior to blue band on each side
of midline. Some blue is lacking
from one which appears to be a F.
Mountain Bluebirds and Brewer
Sparrows are common in this
area. In the evening set 100 traps
about 30 ft. apart entirely in the
open sandy places and none
were placed under any brush
or cover in the sink region. The
