On route from 11 mi. W, 7 mi S Mitchell, 4850 ft.
Wheeler Co. Oregon to new camp
June 17

Ate lunch and then looked for a
camping location in the Juniper
belt. Looked for some time. Finally,
took road 28 out of Prineville on
way to Redmond. About 3 miles out
on highway turned off on dirt road
to south about 1 mi." Pulled off "road
about 60 yds to W and made camp at
3:30 p.m.
4 mi. SW Prineville, 3300 ft., Crooks Co., Ore.
3 young Black-billed Magpies
were collected by members of the
camp. A Sage Thrasher was heard
singing and a young Loggerhead
Shrike was seen in a Juniper.
The region surrounding camp is
essentially flat and completely
exposed, mountains being quite
distant. The trees are Junipers
completely stunted in height
from 10 ft. to 40 ft. They are
scattered singly for the most
part and rarely is their a
croup of Junipers. The lateral
