Wolfson 1938 June 13 - 11 mi. W, 7 mi. S Mitchell, 4850 ft., Wheeler Co., Ore. Left camp at 6:30 a.m. Went S through open forest previously described (see earlier notes, June 9, 10) About 1/4 mi. from camp entered dense moist forest of Douglas fir, larch, yellow pine and white fir. Ground cover: grass, other herbaceous plants and dead timber of all sizes; many shaded spots and some open areas with direct sunlight. Found here were: Brown Creeper, Red-breasted Nut- hatcher, Hermit Thrush, Hairy Wood- pecker, Mountain Chickadee, West- ern Tanager, Puise Siskin, Arctic Three-toed Woodpecker, Red Cross- bill, Williamson Sapsucker. Continued S to open forest and found Hairy Woodpecker nest, and recognized White-headed Woodpecker and Ground Squirrel. Traveled W and reached dense forest similar to that described above. Canada Jays and Hermit Thrush nests were found in here. Went North and
