Wolfson 1938 2 11 mi. W, 7 mi. S Mitchell, Wheeler Co., Ore. Elev. 4850' ft. June 9, Camp is located in a clearing, surrounded by yellow pines, 75 ft. to 100 ft. in height. The ground cover consists of grasses and other small herbaceous plants; no shrubbery present, but dead logs of yellow pine scattered throughout the region. The slope is slight - about 5° - to the N. No grazing is evident in this immediate locality. The surrounding forest is open, not dense, with small grassy meadows where the pines are lacking. North about 100 yds. there is a small stream (3-8 ft. wide) which drains Westward from the east. South about 200 yds. there is a low ridge, which runs toward the East where there is a more distinct higher ridge. The main drainage appears to be North and West. At 5:00 A.M. there was a heavy frost covering the vegetation, and there were no signs of bird life or other vertebrates.
