Wolfson 1938 July 12, (cont.) 19 mi. S, 5 mi. E Lostine; 1000 ft., Wallowa Co., Ore. Sparrows were heard in the mead alpine meadow near Lost Lake. 16 mi. S, 3 mi. E Lostine; 5500 ft., Wallowa Co., Ore. After returning to camp at 1:00 p.m. Examined gopher sets and rat traps set yesterday. Nothing was in rat traps and they were left set. One gopher set was sprung and the gopher had been carugh but taken by some predator- impossible to say which one. The set 2 mi. N of camp was un-sprung and left set. July 13, Left camp at 6:30 and traveled to East Forks trail. Hunted on the e slope amongst the willows, maples and alders and in the fir forest. In the willows 2 Warbling Vireos were collected. In the open forest an Olive-backed Thrush was collected. 2 Ruby-crowned Knights were seen in a dense fir stand. Birds in this vicinity do not respond to the Pygmy Owl imitation which was used with success in other localities previously visited (not at this camp or nearby vicinity)
