Wolfson 1938 July 10, (cont.) 16 mi S, 3 mi E Lostine, 5500 ft, Wallowa Co, Oregon. In the evening a trap line of 90 traps was set in the woods to the E of the road- saw for about 1 1/2 mi N and S, begunning near camp and running S. All sets were made for Letirionomys. July 11. Examined trap line in the [land] genus morning at 7:00. Caught 1 Eutamias; 2 Peromyscus and 3 Peromysc[su] 1 Lettrionmys. Lettrionomy[us was] caught in dense forest where there were fallen dead legs. After noon as I was leaving camp to set some gopher traps saw a Swanshoes Rabbit sitting out in the open. Was afraid to move for fear of flushing it. Called to Ward Russell, who shot it. Looked for fresh gopher workings for three hours in the afternoon. Are scarce in the region. Made two sets; 1, 2 miles N of camp on the Lostine River in a wet meadow; 2, on the Lostine River 1 mile N of camp in a moist meadow. Set 6 rat traps in dense forest of firs with a low heavy underbrush of Ericaceous(?) plants and large granitic rocks. Workings
