1/6 mi S, 3 mi Sostine; 5500 ft., Wallowa Co., Ore.
forest W of the road and set a
line about 1/4 mi. long running
parallel to Sostine R. Habitat covered
by the 55 traps was old forest of
Fir, and Larch and Lodgepole pine.
Several places were wet and mossy
and had small pools present. Ground
cover was pine needles where crown
cover was dense and shaded the
ground. Where light penetrated
Fragaria and Tralietrum were
commonest and other species were
present but not identified (but
not abundant).
July 10.
Examined trap-line at 7:00 a.m. and
had caught the following. 1 Microtus
erodap and 2 Peromyscus maniculatus
in the first line beside the stream.
In the second line in the forest were
carugh: 2 Clethrionomys, near dead
twiles in dense woods; 1 Zapus, near
alders and willows near the Sostine
R.; 1 Microtus erodap in the wet
part of the line, 1 Cutanias; 1 adult
Peromyscus maniculatus and 1 sub-
adult.
