16mi S, 3 mi E Lostine, 5500 ft, Wallowa Co; Oregon
down the slope have alders and
maples on both sides. Grassy open
places are present between patches of
tuiliev. 2 Warbling Vireos, 1 Chipping
Sparrow, 1 Audubon Warbler were
collected on the slope near a
stream in the tuiliev and alders.
Many Olive-backed Thrushes were
heard from the slope and dense
fir forests bordering the river. Several
Golden-crowned Kinglets were seen
and 1 juvenile collected. 1 Ruby Crowned
Kinglet was seen and several heard
singing. At camp Red Crossbills and
Pine Siskins are fairly common, the
Crossbills being more sporadic in
their appearance. 1 Chickaree was
collected in the forest habitat.
July 10
In the evening two trap lines were set.
One line ran for 100 yds beside a
small stream in a meadow habitat -
At the traps were not under bushes
but in the grass beside the stream.
The stream was about 1 mile S of
camp C of the road and on the lower
E slope of the canyon running to the
