Wolfson 1938 N.E. Malheur R., 15 mi. E, 12 mi. S, Prairie City, 5/00 ft. Baker Co. several times during the morning. Cassin Purple Finches were abundant and several Puris [illegible] were seen in the block of Crosshills. The Cross- hills were seen on the ground on two occasions where it was dry and hardly any vegetation. What they were doing is doubtful - feeding on vegetation or gathering pellets? An interesting example of habitat study was the presence of several Brewer Sparrows in a patch of Arte- media about 1 acre in size at the dry NW corner of the meadow. They were singing. This was the only habitat of this type in the region! There possibly should have been more Song Sparrows and Fox Sparrows but none were seen. 1 other Fox Sparrow was collected by A.H. Miller. Two Wood Pewees were seen on their nests - probably incubat- ing. The abundance of the Hummingbirds and the Lincoln Sparrows was the outstanding feature of this meadow.
