N.Fle. Mathew R, 21 mi. SE Prairie City, 5000 ft., Grant Co.
and dead timber was abundant. In
the open forest habitat, I collected
1 Hairy Woodpecker, 2 Cutanias; Re-
cognized in this habitat were: several
Sleander-billed Nutatches; 3 Red-
breasted Nuttatchs; 20 Clidzades
(Montanus); several Hairy Wood-
peckers; 1 Stellar Jay; 40 Red
Crossbills in two flocks flew over-
head; 2 Red-rafted Flickers. In the
dense forest composed mainly of fir
with some yellow pine and larch,
I collected 1 Canada Jay; 2 Hermit
Thrushes; 2 Brown Creepers; 1 Audu-
low Warbler. Recognized were: several
Brown Creepers; several Audulow
Warblers; 1 Tolinie Warbler; 1 Canada
Jay; several Williamsow Sapanders.
In several places there were
eleartling and Artemesia bushes,
but no birds present in this cover
which are normally characteristic
of it e.g. Green-Tailed Towhee

Left camp at 6:45 and returned to
alpine slope, ridge and forest habitat
to get Canada Jays if possible
