Wolfson 1938 mile Malheur R, 2 mi S of Prairie City 5000 ft. altitude, July 3 (cont.) Vireo. Recognized in this habitat were: 1 Hermit Thrush; 1 Song Sparrow; 1 Lincoln Sparrow. In the forest were seen: 1 Williamson's Sapsucker, several Oregon Juncos; 2 Red-Sided Flycatchers, 2 Hairy Woodpeckers; 1 Slender-Billed Nuthatch; and several Red-breasted Nuthatches. July 4 Left camp at 7:00 a.m. and went W. There is a ridge running almost N and S with a steep slope to the NE. The habitat is an open forest of yellow pine type but farther north came into a side canyon with a small stream which runs into the North Fork of the Malheur River. The forest here was a dense fir for the most part with luxuriant ferns, moss, and alder growth near the stream. North of this canyon the forest was open and of yellow pine mainly, but along the crest of ridge and still farther north was a dense fir forest with yellow pine and larch and dry ground. Broken
