clover grass, composites, legumes,
and sedge in a more or less even
cover. In several places were some
careothus bushes but they were
not a main part of the cover. No
logging is in evidence. Dead
lurals is not excessive and forest
is extremely open. Collected here were
Hairy Woodpecker, slender-billed
nutcrack, and Red-breasted Nut-
cratch. Recognized in this type of
forest habitat were: Chipping
Sparrow, several; Evening Grosbeaks;
Audubon Warbler, several; Purple
Finch, several; Red-breasted Nut-
cratches, several; Mountain Chicka-dee
common; Western Robin, common.
It was raining steadily throughout
the morning and the activity
among the birds was almost
lacking.
July 2
Left camp at 6:30 a.m. and headed
S thru yellow pine forest. Collected
slender-billed Nutcrack and imm.
