En route to new camp near Prairie City:
Broke camp at 7:30 and went to Bend.
Traveled from Bend. to Prairie city
thru Tolow Bay. Drove out of Prairie
city to Malheur National Forest and
made camp at : North Forks Mal-
heur River, 21 mis. SE Prairie City, 500ft.,
Grant County, Oregon. Camp is less
than 300 yds. from the Baker
County line

5000 ft. Grant Co. Oregon
Left camp at 7:30 and walked
S about '14 miles. Habitat : open forest
yellow pine, 20'-80' tall, evidently
mature forest. Ground cover of
gass, Composites, and Carex ( sedge ) .
Little fallen trulles. Ground
squirrels, chipmunks, Callopemis-
philus, and chickarees are common.
Collected here were : Flicker, slender-billed Nuthatch ; swung westward
to ridge, along top of sidge, and
then tracks to camp. Habitat ! open
forest mature yellow pine, with
some larch mixed in. Ground
