Etolia alpina
25 June Dersante, Alaska
Another nest was found today
near the wanga. It is located 80
yards west of 1st nest along
the arm ridge which extends
in that direction. It also is located
on the top of a low, grown crown
polygyn (by this I mean, polygonal
which have only shallow troughs and
appear to be only small mounds).
26 June Barrow, Alaska
Two pairs were in the vicinity of B.A.C.S.;
their nests were not located. In
the evening, 4 birds were collected
in the area between Britton's & Uth's
Areas. All (Aves [35, 1%]) were well
along in the wing molt. Pileate
reports seem very much to ears as to
21st. In general, the redbodies were
hard to find, and displaying birds
were heard only occasionally.
27 June - Several displaying birds were present along
gasoline ridge & in the area of
Nest #2 (see map). Wing molt
seems to be going on in nearly
all the birds. Nesting is the
main activity now; territorial disputes
are seen occasionally.
