Evolia alpina

minutes. The two together appeared to be
♂ and ♀ (A + B respectively). The
Third bird(C) which fed by itself
appeared to be a ♂? Usually A
would follow closely (4-6 inches) behind
B as they moved along. Each would
peck at the tundra several times, then
they would fly sun several feet
(1-3) where they would peck again.
This went on constantly. Occasionally
A would catch up to B and attempt to mount
her. B would usually turn
to drive A off. B would divert her
attention to feeding + A would follow
behind her. Copulation was completed
only twice in 14 attempts. Three times
when they encountered C, a different
behavior was noticed (The vermande of encounter (2 times))
The first time, the birds flew up to each
other and as they did so, C raised
his wing (The one towards them) + uttered
a shrill note. A then turned both
his wings in response + gave the
second trial. He then lowered his
wings + placed them horizontally
with the tips slightly downward.
