Erolia alpina
31 may Barrow, Alaska
usually associated with the aerial
display. This did not occur when the
low individuals were displaying. The
major activity of all three birds was
feeding. Several times, the birds came
into contact with [illegible], but
they usually stagger aside that
the [illegible] go his own way.
1 june Barrow, Alaska
One heard displaying west of the southeast 1/2
Footprint Lake. No others were noted in
that area or farther south along the
west side of Skovavik. One was
seen displaying this evening on the west
shore of Olson Lagoon, south 1/4 mile. A
[illegible] possibly this one, was co-located
in the same area one-half hour later.
The display consisted of a flight to 30 to 50
feet and hovered in that position for
50 sec. During this time there were
several drops in altitude and, but,
regain them. The bird won the typical
churning
with a more mescal
full as it descended. The wings were
beat regardless of speed. There would
be 8-10 beats for the horizontal down to
approximately the 135°.
