11 August Pitt Point, Alaska
About 8 birds seen in vicinity / small
ponds, west of the base. Included among
these were three young birds which
still had down about the head.
15 August P.H. Point, Alaska
None have been seen since 11 August.
16 August Pitt Point, Alaska
Three molting Ads were seen
just 200 yards from the base.
One there had its dark breast
feather almost completely replaced;
The others were still in a state
where the breast (welt) appeared
"spickled" with black and gray.
18 August Barrow, Alaska
Four immature and 1 adult
were noted feeding together near
A.A.C.S.
19 August Barrow, Alaska
This was the most common bird
seen today. Approx. 300 were present
in the southern half of Fortprint
Lake. The ratio of young to adults
seemed to be nearly 50:50.
All were feeding in the shallow
pacer advantage area with no
family groups being distinguishable.
