15 June Barrow, Alaska
Very few tundra census plot - see census
sheets. One nest located ne stole 15.2-
with 4 eggs + inc. ? bird (sex?). The
egg had a lighter background color
with dark red-brown spot on the
pointed - brownish spots at the
round end. It was located in the
center of a 30' diameter flat, typical
physa - could not miss, below
only stunted grass. All eggs were
conspicuous for about 10 sec. for blades
of grass covered them.
Display activity was at 11:00am
fodder - 11:00am? One 15 acres
display heard 6:30am - the plot.
Only 1 pair encountered - travel skourt,
16 June Pair collected south / John Area - in the middle of
egg laying. Wing molt noticed yesterday.
Displaying? + one specimen collected today
Hood cat puma? 1+2. Again, there
seems little display activity
17 June Again, there was very little activity on
a census plot. Another nest located ne
13.3 - with 4 eggs - Dementation birds
jumped if the nest within 20' away,
went fluttering & bouncing over the
tundra, giving a high-pitched squeal.
