Holmes,R 1962 Erolia alpina 3 Aug Barrow, Alaska immature stop feeding & look around - then it would usually resume feeding. - No young bird was collected. Only another bird of the species noted (18el 8?) - which was in the same area - otherwise none were seen between camp & Oolipil slough. 4 Aug Only two seen NORTHERN edge - where we crossed. Three hours in search for more of the species (2nd.). 5 Aug Were seen near Beach Ridge - ESN Lagoon area. 6 Aug Large numbers encountered today in several localities. A group / 3 cows first noted - about 200 yards S or E of garden ridge - these were watched & feeding actually needed. - nearly all feeders were seen due in low-cut poly bough ridge - with occasional periods spent at the wet pool edge. Later a group of 15 was found & The me of 1P - (part 1 of 1st group may be smaller here) - 50 between garden & 1000yds away - there were about 30+ birds. All 1P were adults - some in seemingly poor summer plumage. - 2 3/4 inch winter dress.
